As the voices of Michael Bublé and Mariah Carey are being belted out across shopping centres far and wide – this can only mean one thing. The upcoming festive season is upon us with plenty of last-minute shopping, parties to enjoy, and festive events to attend.

This is the perfect time not only to get started with a rideshare provider such as Uber and start earning some extra cash but also for existing drivers to maximise their earnings.

We’ve asked our experienced team here at Splend to come up with 5 important tips and here is what they have to say:

TIP 1: Busy period = busy roads

Be extra careful on the roads over the following few weeks and be a responsible driver – make sure you are aware of your surroundings, do not speed, and are well rested. The police will be out in force to monitor the roads and catch any drivers breaking the road rules.

TIP 2: Cash in on New Year’s Eve

New Year’s Eve is traditionally the busiest day of the year for rideshare drivers! Most rides will happen after midnight so be sure you’ve had plenty of rest to be up and alert on the roads until the early hours.

    TIP 3: Complete this checklist

To capitalise on the festive season you need to ensure your car is ready for increased demand from riders. Use the checklist below to ensure your car is prepared:

    • Ensure your car’s Certificate of Inspection (COI) is up to date.
    • Test your car’s lights are all workin
    • Check that your car’s servicing is up to date. If your car requires a service, book it in before Christmas.
    • Test the pressure of your car’s tyres including the spare. If required, inflate the tyres to correct pressure. This will improve both fuel efficiency and safety.

By following the checklist above, you will ensure your car is kept on the roads at all times.

TIP 4: Stock up your car

Before the rush, you should stock your car essentials such as tissues, water, closed lollies such as mentos and a new air freshener to give the best experience for both you and your riders. We recommend you carry some sick bags to avoid any unexpected time off the road if someone is unwell in your car.

    TIP 5: Target tourists

Around Christmas day, if the amount of ride requests is down, it’s worth heading to areas known for tourists such as airports or hotels to find riders. There will plenty of people travelling home or away for Christmas.

Now, it’s time to get behind the wheel and start earning!

Happy driving from all of us at Splend.
