Same as the MacBook Pro is for laptops or the Converse Chucky Ts for casual footwear, the Tesla Model 3 has been the first shape to spring to mind when you think of an electric car, ever since it was first launched in 2017.
So, in all honesty, there’s probably not a lot of news we can bring if you’re an EV enthusiast, so let’s just remind ourselves why they’re so different from literally any other car on the market:
Most electric cars are, in essence, just petrol cars with the oily bits thrown out in favour of a cleaner technology. Not Teslas, though. The Model 3 is the result of close to 15 years of research and development focused solely on the lithium-ion EV technology.
Teslas are built on a platform meant to house large battery packs and electric motors, resulting in a much better-balanced car.
And balanced it is, literally. The axle-mounted motors and the battery pack being under the floor make for an exceptionally low centre of gravity, near-50/50 weight distribution, and a smooth underside for improved aerodynamics.
It’s not too often that you hear these terms being thrown around when talking about a daily-driver, but that’s just how much of a difference a dedicated design makes – we’re suddenly in performance car territory.
Cars generally only deteriorate from the moment you drive them off from the dealership. Although Teslas have a striking, timeless design and hard-to-match performance, the real reason why they’re groundbreaking is that they actually become better, more efficient cars as time passes.
Being such tech-heavy – literally electronic gadgets on wheels –, Teslas have the capacity to boast a better range, increased safety, and innovative features and functionalities that improve with every software update.
