How much can you make as an Uber Eats driver in Australia?
It depends on several things – the city you’re in, how many hours you spend driving and delivering, as well as the distances you have to cover to make the deliveries or even the weather.
There is no exact number to how much you can make as an Uber Eats driver. But in big cities like Sydney, the average income of an Uber Eats driver is around $10 for each delivery. If a delivery driver can complete 3 orders per trip every hour, that means about $30 per hour. This is below the national average hourly wage ($44.00 an hour), but above the minimum wage of $21.38.
The OSA, however, calculated that an Uber Eats driver could probably make between $6 and $12 per delivery, with an average delivery time of about 15 to 30 minutes to complete.
The earnings depend a lot on the city you’re delivering in. Here is the estimated hourly income for Uber Eats drivers for each city, as per September 2022.
- Adelaide: $27-$33/hour
- Brisbane: $32-$38/hour
- Melbourne: $35-$45/hour
- Perth: $33-$39/hour
- Sydney: $30-$40/hour
How can you increase your Uber Eats earnings?
There are a few trips and tricks you can use for boosting your earnings:
- Peak times can vary depending on multiple factors. Open your Uber Eats app for a full day and check for yourself when it’s the highest demand.
- Get on the road on rainy days. The demand increases and surge prices may occur.
- Take a lunch break when people probably won’t — around 3 – 4 pm is the best time.
- Don’t be afraid to say out later! Driving from 5 pm until midnight on any given day, but especially on Friday and Saturday is the key to getting a lot of steady orders.
- Drive on holidays, long weekends or special events. These often come with high demand and surge charges.
- Skip Tuesday or Wednesday if you need a break. They’re the least profitable days.
