Uber has made it possible for our customers to activate Uber Eats directly from the Driver app and get started without any paperwork. Whether you’re new to delivery driver apps, or you’re already an Uber driver willing to increase your earnings during peak rideshare hours, here’s a guide on how to become a better and more profitable Uber Eats driver in Australia.

How can you sign up for Uber Eats?

The eligibility criteria are the same for both platforms as for UberX. If you’re an active Uber driver, you’re automatically ready to start with Uber Eats and Uber Connect. Getting started is simple. Visit the Work Hub in your Driver app to opt in for parcel delivery requests. You’ll be asked to accept the terms and conditions and get all the information you need on how to become an Uber Eats driver.

If you’re having trouble signing up, just call your Customer Specialist on 1800 775 363. We’re here to help.

If you haven’t work with Uber before, all you need is an eligible car and to meet the Uber Eats driver requirements. Don’t worry if your car doesn’t meet the requirements or you don’t have a car at all — you can rent a car for Uber with Splend and pay for it as you earn.

What are the best times to do Uber Eats?

Naturally, peak hours for Uber Eats are during meal times and the highest demand occurs around lunch and dinner during weekdays. Delivering during weekends can be the most profitable, as the demand is high all day long.

Here are the best time frames for doing Uber Eats in Australia.

  Period   Peak hours
  Breakfast   7 AM – 9 AM
  Lunch   11 AM – 3 PM
  Dinner   6 PM – 11 PM
Weekend   9 AM – 9 PM, Friday and Saturday nights

What are the best areas to do Uber Eats?

Besides knowing when to drive for Uber Eats, the key is also to know where to go. Uber suggests parking in downtown areas, since they have more restaurants and merchants. These areas are marked as hotspots on the Uber Eats app.

Check out these links for the busiest areas to drive by city: Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney.

How much can you make as an Uber Eats driver in Australia?

It depends on several things – the city you’re in, how many hours you spend driving and delivering, as well as the distances you have to cover to make the deliveries or even the weather.

There is no exact number to how much you can make as an Uber Eats driver. But in big cities like Sydney, the average income of an Uber Eats driver is around $10 for each delivery. If a delivery driver can complete 3 orders per trip every hour, that means about $30 per hour. This is below the national average hourly wage ($44.00 an hour), but above the minimum wage of $21.38.

The OSA, however, calculated that an Uber Eats driver could probably make between $6 and $12 per delivery, with an average delivery time of about 15 to 30 minutes to complete.

The earnings depend a lot on the city you’re delivering in. Here is the estimated hourly income for Uber Eats drivers for each city, as per September 2022.

  • Adelaide: $27-$33/hour
  • Brisbane: $32-$38/hour
  • Melbourne: $35-$45/hour
  • Perth: $33-$39/hour
  • Sydney: $30-$40/hour

How can you increase your Uber Eats earnings?

There are a few trips and tricks you can use for boosting your earnings:

  1. Peak times can vary depending on multiple factors. Open your Uber Eats app for a full day and check for yourself when it’s the highest demand.
  2. Get on the road on rainy days. The demand increases and surge prices may occur.
  3. Take a lunch break when people probably won’t — around 3 – 4 pm is the best time.
  4. Don’t be afraid to say out later! Driving from 5 pm until midnight on any given day, but especially on Friday and Saturday is the key to getting a lot of steady orders.
  5. Drive on holidays, long weekends or special events. These often come with high demand and surge charges.
  6. Skip Tuesday or Wednesday if you need a break. They’re the least profitable days.
