This year, we celebrated International Women’s Day with a morning tea for our customers. It was great to see the friendly, smiling faces we have missed so much.
Rideshare driving is often seen as a male-dominated industry, however, we have many female customers at Splend.
To celebrate this special day, we wanted to help #BreakTheBias, and so we reached out to some of our female customers to find out not only why they chose ridesharing, but also what it’s really like to be a female driver.
Halimah wears many hats – from lollipop lady at her son’s school and crypto trader to actor, fashion designer, and of course, Uber driver. She’s been a Splend customer since August 2021 and is enjoying her time behind the wheel of an MG HS Core on the Flexi plan.
She’d never had a car before thinking of becoming an Uber driver. Flexibility was very important to her, which is one of the reasons she chose Splend.
I researched different car subscription providers, but after looking into Splend and how they do everything for you, I decided it would be a great match.
We asked her what it was like for her to be a female rideshare driver. She mentioned that her approach to rideshare driving is the same as her personality – fun.
I receive a lot of compliments, from both men and women, who tell me how refreshing it is to have a woman driver. But although I love chatting, I try to read people and provide each one of them with a safe and cheerful ride.
Her advice to other women who are looking to become rideshare drivers is not to take anything too personal and to enjoy it as much as possible:
Be confident and believe in yourself. It’s not just about the job itself, it’s also about the experience and connecting with others, so take it as a fun way to make a living.
Halimah exudes positivity and inner strength, which makes us even more proud to have her as a customer. But no matter how her day was, she always goes back to what matters most.
My favourite part of the day is seeing my son. I want to hug him all the time! I also run 5 km every day because it keeps me grounded. I am just grateful to be alive and to experience each day, no matter what happens.
Rideshare driving doesn’t have to be a full-time job. You can do it in between classes, in the evenings, for extra income or just for fun. If you want to take the plunge and become an Uber driver, our customers are testament that regardless of gender or back story, everyone can make it work.
