In case you haven’t yet heard, Uber Australia recently announced that from 1 October 2019, all new vehicles signed up to its app will need to have a 5-star Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) safety rating.
This is a great win for passengers who will have the benefit of riding in 5-star safety vehicle but how will this affect existing and new drivers?
Here’s what you’ll need to know
- Drivers of new vehicles signing up to Uber from October 2019 will need to have a car with a 5-star safety rating and be less than 10 years old
- Vehicles in Uber Black, Uber Lux and Uber SUV must be less than 7 years old
- Existing drivers currently driving with Uber will have two years to switch to a safer car if their current vehicle does not meet these requirements meaning by October 2021, all vehicles operating on the Uber platform will be 5-star ANCAP rated
