Uber driver requirements in Perth, WA
1. Full WA driver’s licence
You must have a full AU driver’s licence with at least 12 months of driving experience over the last two years. If it’s not a WA licence, you’ll need to convert it before signing up.
2. An Uber-eligible car
For a car to be eligible for Uber, it must be nine years old or newer (from the current year’s changeover date, the 30th of June). For example, before the 30th of June 2020, an Uber-eligible car must be a 2010 model or newer and after that, 2011 or newer.
The car must also have its WA registration, four doors with external handles, seat belts for the driver and at least four passengers, and no damage or missing body pieces.
3F Motor Injury Insurance
In WA on-demand drivers must have 3F Motor Injury Insurance ($556.05) to cover for any injury resulting from an accident.
Don’t forget your comprehensive or third-party property insurance either. Make sure your name, car make and registration, policy expiration date, and type of cover are clearly visible on the document.
If you want to use your personal car for ridesharing, you’ll need to book an appointment at a certified inspection centre and take it in for a check-up.
3. Uber application documents
To become an Uber driver in Perth, you must be 21 years or older, have a smartphone that’s compatible with the Uber Driver app (iPhone 4s or newer, or any Android device released since 2013), and get the following paperwork ready:
You can request a police check online, which will cost between $30-$50, and will be valid for three months. Uber can also process this for you.
You’ll also need to get a medical assessment – complete your Medical Assessment Instructions Form and Medical Fitness To Drive Form and book an appointment at your GP. If you don’t have a preferred medical professional, go to the local Uber Greenlight Hub and ask for the current list of partners.
In order to drive Uber in Perth and Western Australia you’ll need an F or T extension on your WA driver’s licence or apply for a PTD authorisation at the DoT (Department of Transport).
Once you have the above-mentioned documents, you can apply for a PTD authorisation online via your DoTDirect account. The initial application fee costs $28, and you’ll have to pay a further $88 annually.
