Below are the steps you need to take to start driving with Uber in Adelaide. If you need any help with your application, Splend is here for you.

    1. An Uber eligible car

For a car to be eligible for Uber, it must be nine years old or newer (from the current year’s changeover date, the 30th of June). For example, before the 30th of June 2020, an Uber eligible car must be a 2010 model or newer and after that, 2011 or newer.

The car must also have its SA registration, four doors with external handles, seat belts for the driver and at least four passengers, and no damage or missing body pieces.

    2. Full SA driver’s licence

You must have a full AU driver’s licence with at least 6 months of driving experience within the last two years. If it’s not a SA licence, you’ll need to convert it before signing up.

    3. Car insurance

You’ll need valid insurance in order to drive Uber in Adelaide and South Australia. Make sure your name, car make and registration, policy expiration date and type of cover are clearly visible on the document.

    4. Uber application

You must be over the age of 21 to become an Uber driver in Adelaide, SA, and have a smartphone that’s compatible with the Uber Driver app (iPhone 4s or newer, or any Android device released since 2013).

Apply online to become an Uber driver partner. If you need help with this, we can help via Splend Assist.

Splend Assist is included in your Splend membership fee and helps you get your:

    • DSCI clearance – valued at $114 – payment included in Splend Assist
    • Medical and eyesight certificate – at a cost up to $200, covered outside Splend Assist
    • Driver’s accreditation
    • Operator’s accreditation – at a cost of $93, covered outside Splend Assist
    • National criminal history check – valued up to $55 – payment included in Splend Assist

After these steps, it will take Uber roughly 24hrs to verify your documents and an extra 3-5 days to activate your account.

    5. Car inspection

Once Uber has completed your background check and you’ve been approved, you’ll receive an email. The email will invite you to complete a free car inspection – the final step in becoming an Uber driver in Adelaide. We will do this for you before you get into our vehicle.
