You must have a full AU driver’s licence with at least 6 months of driving experience within the last two years. If it’s not a SA licence, you’ll need to convert it before signing up. Learn more about Uber licence requirements in Adelaide.
For a car to be eligible for Uber, it must be nine years old or newer (from the current year’s changeover date, the 30th of June). For example, before the 30th of June 2020, an Uber-eligible car must be a 2010 model or newer and after that, 2011 or newer.
The car must also have its SA registration, four doors with external handles, seat belts for the driver and at least four passengers, and no damage or missing body pieces.
You’ll need valid insurance in order to drive Uber in Adelaide and South Australia. Make sure your name, car make and registration, policy expiration date and type of cover are clearly visible on the document.
Once Uber has completed your background check and you’ve been approved, you’ll receive an email. The email will invite you to complete a free car inspection – the final step in becoming an Uber driver in Adelaide. We will do this for you before you get into our vehicle.
To become an Uber driver in Adelaide, you must be 21 years or older, have a smartphone that’s compatible with the Uber Driver app (iPhone 4s or newer, or any Android device released since 2013), and get the following paperwork ready:
The DSCI clearance allows you to work with children, and it’s mandatory for your Driver’s Accreditation application. You can apply online.
You’ll also need to get a medical assessment, also known as a Certificate of Fitness. Book an appointment at your GP and complete this form. This can cost up to $200 depending on your GP.
In order to get your Driver’s Accreditation, you’ll also need to provide a National Criminal History Check. These are valid for three months and cost around $49. For more information on how to register yours, visit acic.gov.au
In order to provide rideshare services you must also obtain an Operator Accreditation. Download the form, complete it, and submit it along with a plan of operation to 71 Richmond Road, Mile End 5031. This costs $93 a year and has to be renewed every five years.
After completing these steps, it will take Uber roughly 24 hours to verify your documents and an extra 3-5 days to activate your account.
