Below are the driver requirements to join Uber in Sydney. If you need any help with your application, Splend is here for you.

    1. An Uber eligible car

For a car to be eligible for Uber, it must be nine years old or newer (from the current year’s changeover date, the 30th of June). For example, before the 30th of June 2020, an Uber eligible car must be a 2010 model or newer and after that, 2011 or newer.

The car must also have its NSW registration, four doors with external handles, seat belts for the driver and at least four passengers, and no damage or missing body pieces.

    2. Full NSW driver’s licence

You must have a full AU driver’s licence with at least 12 months of driving experience. If it’s not a NSW licence, you’ll need to convert it before signing up.

    3. Passenger Transport licence code

Every Uber driver in NSW requires a Passenger Transport licence code. If you don’t already have this, you’ll need to apply for one. Prepare copies of these documents:

    • Valid NSW driver’s licence
    • Valid passport or birth certificate
    • Criminal background check

Once you have all the documents, you can apply for a Passenger Transport licence code. The application costs $22 and usually takes 3 to 7 business days to be processed.

    4. Car insurance

You’ll need comprehensive or third-party property insurance in order to drive Uber in Sydney and New South Wales. Make sure your name, car make and registration, policy expiration date and type of cover are clearly visible on the document.

    5. Uber application

You must be over the age of 21 to become an Uber driver in Sydney, NSW, and have a smartphone that’s compatible with the Uber Driver app (iPhone 4s or newer, or any Android device released since 2013).

Apply online to become an Uber driver partner.

    6. Car inspection

Renewing the NSW registration of a car that’s more than five years old requires an inspection. If the car passes, it’s suitable for Uber driving.
